I admit. I did not know about this eatery until one of my friends told me. That was also when I learnt that they were sold for $4 million by Aztech Group few years back. For an eatery that was sold for $4 million, I believed that there must be something amazing about this eatery. They have a number of stores across Singapore, but the best to go will be of course their main store, which is in Upper Paya Lebar.
After eating The Original Katong Laksa (which I had wrote in an earlier post), my friends and I headed down towards Kay Lee Roast Meat Joint’s main store, which was 3 bus stops away.
When we arrived there at almost 2pm, there were not many people over there.
We ordered the 3 combination Roast Meats at $25 and 2 noodles (at $1.50 each): Total spending: $28.
Review of Three Combination Roast Meats:
Their Honey Glazed Char Siew was the cream of the crop, the best of the best. You know it was the best, when it comes from someone who do not really like Char Siew. Their Honey Glazed Char Siew was perfect cooked with a strong charcoal burnt taste. The charcoal burnt taste was strong, but it was perfect. It did not have the strong overburnt taste like what you might get in an overburnt grilled meat in Korean BBQ.
Moving on, their Roasted Pork was so fattening yet delicious. This is not recommended for people with high cholesterol or overweight, due to the high level of fats in the meat. I really enjoyed eating their Roasted Pork. As the meat goes into your mouth, try imagine the juice coming out of the fattening meat. What a wonderful taste.Lastly, their Roasted Duck Leg meat was soft and tender. The taste was decent. One thing that I found it dissapointing though, was that the skin was not crispy enough.
Ranking : Honey Glazed Char Siew > Roasted Pork > Roasted Duck Leg
Review of Noodle:
The noodle was not to my liking personally. The noodle texture was quite hard, so it was hard to chew. The sauce was really good though. One thing I find it dissapointing was that the noodle was unable to soak in much of the sauce, as a result, the noodle was not really tasty and smooth.
